TIP PROGRAM LEVEL 2 ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE

As a Level 2 TIP student, the School recognises you as an elite performer in your area of expertise who trains/rehearses more than 14 hours a week.

PLC Sydney has the aim of providing support and avenues for each student to achieve in their chosen elite activity as well as to support students gain the best possible education and educational pathways for a future that may or may not include your current elite activity.

We understand at the elite level of performance the demands of your activity may impact your ability to meet the academic expectations placed on all PLC Sydney students. Therefore PLC Sydney can provide our older Level 2 TIP students with the following assistance in maintaining a students’ academic standard.

Variation of Curriculum

Students in Year 8 (2023 only), Year 9 and Year 10 and in Level 2 of the TIP Program may apply to only study two electives rather than three (Yr8 students to only study one language rather than two).  The timetabled lessons for the third elective (or second language) will then become allocated independent study periods in the library.

This is an enormous privilege the school may give students in good faith that students need this extra study time and it helps them maintain a healthy balance with their demanding schedule.

TIP library lessons are a normal timetabled lesson. Although there is no supervising teacher, it has been given for independent learning and study. Students are to arrive at the beginning of the lesson, sign in with the library staff, complete homework, assignments or study, and remain in the library for the duration of the lesson.

If students are found breaking this agreement by either not turning up, leaving early, or even wasting time during this lesson, then this privilege can be revoked, students will need to take up a third elective (or second language), and deal with the School's disciplinary actions for truancy.

Students’ TIP level will be reviewed regularly.  If a student was to reduce their commitment to their elite activity and/or start to compete at a lower level, they will be required to take up a third elective (or second language) for the remainder of`that year.

Application is directly through Ms Clarke

Special leave requests for TIP library lessons

Once approved for TIP Library lessons, families have the option of applying to Ms Clarke for an exemption to one or more of these library lessons for necessary, on campus, supervised training sessions or specific activity based appointments.  This also applies for Year 11 and Year 12 free periods.

A request in writing is to be sent to Ms Clarke outlining the necessity of using TIP library lessons for training/appointments relevant to the performance of the student. Please include a weekly timetable, indicating planned homework/study and rest/recovery time as part of your request.

In seeking this permission, parents acknowledge they will take responsibility for ensuring all academic homework and assessments are completed by the student at an alternate time.

Approval for exemption from TIP library lessons will only be provided to students with demonstrated academic organisational and completion skills and support from teachers and the Head of the relevant department that this training or appointment can’t be made outside of lesson time.

Approval will be provided for a maximum calendar year. Families must re-apply at the beginning of each Term 1 for any ongoing exemption of TIP library lessons.

Students’ academic performance will be monitored regularly to ensure academic standards are being maintained.  If a student starts to decline in their academic performance, this special exemption for TIP library lesson leave will be revoked until the student can demonstrate consistent academic performances again.
