Hockey
PLC Sydney has had a long and successful tradition of Hockey participation within the greater Sydney region. We participate in both IPSHA and IGSA competitions.
Our top Year 7 - 12 teams over the past 10 years have seen PLC Sydney noticed as one of the most successful schools within the NSW Independent Girls School Association (IGSA).
All girls, no matter their starting standard, are given opportunities to train and be guided by our experienced coaching staff. Those who develop to or are participating at a high level for their age group might be offered an opportunity to trial within our representative pathway. Two girls in the past few years have made the Australian U16 Schoolgirls team and one of these students has gone on to compete for the Australian Hockeyroos.
Our Years 3 - 6 girls play modified games of Hockey to help them learn the game and get more "time on the ball".
"Minkey" is for students in Years 3 - 5. Minkey is a 6-a-side game played on 1/4 of a full size hockey field. Years 3 and 4 Minkey players are permitted to push the ball only. Year 5 Minkey players are permitted to use a controlled slap.
"Super 8 Hockey" is for Year 6 students. They play 8-a-side on 1/2 of a full sized Hockey field.
Coaching Staff
Our Head Hockey Coach Michael Nobbs is a former International/Olympic Hockey player and International/Olympic Hockey Coach.
Anthony Thornton is a former International/Olympic Hockey player and International Womens Hockey Coach. He has also held the role of Head Coach for the Women's Hockey Program at the NSW Institue of Sport.
Stephan Madycki is a PDHPE Teacher and former Australian Indoor Goalie.
Tegan Neowhouse is an ex-student and current U21 NSW Squad member, current Australian Women's Junior Indoor Hockey player.
We look forward to inspiring new Hockey players.
Junior School (IPSHA) Overview
Membership: Years 3–5 (Minkey) via tryouts
Year 6 (Hockey) via tryouts
Cost: $130, this amount will be billed to students’ school fees account
When: Term 2
Training:
Year 6: Tuesdays 3.30 - 5.00 pm at Cintra Park Hockey Turf (bus provided)
Year 5: Thursdays 3.15 - 4.45 pm at PLC Sydney
Years 3 & 4: Fridays 3.15 - 4.30 pm at PLC Sydney
Game Day:
Saturdays, 1 hour between 8.00 am and 12.00 pm, various venues around Sydney, own transport arrangements are to be made
Arrive at least 30 minutes prior to game start time
Uniform: Available from the Glencourse Uniform Shop

PLC Sydney sport socks (black with red trim hockey socks)
PLC Sydney visor or cap
Hair must be tied back off the face
No jewellery is to be worn

Astro turf shoes highly recommended. Football Boots may be worn on grass but not on Astro Turf (Cintra Park, MLC and Pymble)

Senior School (IGSA) Overview
Membership: Years 7–12 via tryouts
Cost: $210, this amount will be billed to students’ school fees account
When: Term 2 (Preseason competition), Term 3 (Premiership competition)
Training: A weekday before or after school. More info here once available.
Game Day: Draws will be available via the Spawtz website at the start of term
Saturdays, 1-1.5 hours between 8.00 am and 12.00 pm, various venues around Sydney, own transport arrangements are to be made
If a Frensham team is in your draw, you will have only one weekend where you will be required to travel to Mittagong. Any Frensham team who makes the semi-finals or final will travel to Sydney for these.
Arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the game start time (top teams might be communicated an earlier warm-up time)
Sign in via team sheet, at the convenor's desk, upon arrival. To be eligible to play semis/finals, students must have played at least three games (signed on).
