AWARDS

Junior School Awards

Badges are awarded to students who make a significant contribution to the activity and who demonstrate exemplary conduct, participation and dedication. The student must attend relevant training sessions, meetings, rehearsals, games and performances to be eligible for a Badge. The decision to award a badge is at the discretion of the Co-curricular Coordinator in consultation with the coordinator of each activity and the Head of the Junior School.

There are five types of Junior School Awards:

For students who have two or more years in Interschool Chess and who meet the criteria.

2. Debating

For Year 6 students selected to represent PLC Sydney and who meet the criteria.

3. Music

For Year 6 students who have three or more years in an ensemble and who meet the criteria. Students who begin at PLC Sydney in Year 5 must have two years in an ensemble and meet the criteria.

4. Sport

As there is no school pathway in gymnastics following IPSHA, aerobics and snow sports a separate criteria has been set and points are awarded for competing at State and National competitions. Please refer to the Head of Junior School Sport for more details.

5. Tournament of Minds

For students selected to represent PLC Sydney at Tournament Day and who meet the criteria.

Senior School Awards

PLC Sydney believes students should be recognised for their high achievement and/or extended dedication to co-curricular activities.  The College strives to make these awards equitable across a diverse range of endeavours and/or competition levels.

There are three types of Co-Curricular Awards in the Senior School:

Underlying considerations are that any award is based on the premise that students work cooperatively with their teammates, coaches and coordinating teachers. It is an expectation that they attend all rehearsals or practices and that they display a sporting and positive spirit at all times.

1. Australian Representative Blazer

Australian Representative Blazers are awarded to students who are selected into the highest level Australian team to compete internationally, such as the Youth Olympic Games, Junior World Championships or equivalent.

This award is the highest level of award for Co-Curricular achievement at PLC Sydney.  For a student to be awarded a PLC Sydney Australian Representative Blazer, ALL of the following criteria must be met:

2. Achievement Awards

Achievement Awards are awarded for excellence in individual activities such as selection in a PLC Sydney First team, winning a Grand Final or other external competition, a member of a premier music group, or a lead role in Drama for a highly commended performance.

Achievement Awards will be awarded to students for outstanding achievements in a chosen co-curricular activity, such as selection into a PLC Sydney First team, winning a Grand Final or other external competition, a member of a premier music group, or a lead role in Drama for a highly commended performance.

These awards are to be embroidered on the School blazer to indicate excellence and achievement.  These awards will be located on the left hand side of the blazer and embroidered with the year.

For activities where there is a competition, eg sport, debating, club competitions, winning or placing at these competitions and/or selection into a senior first PLC Sydney team forms the basis of the criteria for an Achievement Award.

For activities where there is no competition, the award will be by nomination to the Director of Co-Curricular Programs on the basis of an achievement in this area, eg being selected into a premier music ensemble or representing PLC Sydney in an ensemble to the wider community.

Note:  The Achievement Awards are also known as Pockets.

Students awarded an Achievement Award will be presented with a certificate of achievement at a Principals Achievement Meeting held during lunchtimes each term. Students then submit their blazers to the Uniform Shop to have co-curricular achievement awards (Pockets) embroidered. The Uniform Store Manager will arrange for the embroidering of awards.

3. Participation Awards

Participation Awards will be awarded to students for their long term dedication, effort and commitment to a particular co curricular category.

There are six generic Participation Award categories:

Participation Awards consist of a badge that will be awarded for participation based on the following criteria:

If students do more than one activity per category per term, eg two music ensembles each term,  this will be equivalent to two terms of music per term.

Participation Awards can be achieved in multiple categories, e.g. you could earn a Bronze badge for Clubs and a Silver badge for Music.

A minimum attendance of 80% or higher must be recorded for attendance at any co-curricular activity for that activity to be recognised towards achieving a Participation Award.
