Competitive Public Speaking
PLC Sydney has one of the largest Public Speaking programs of any independent girls’ school in NSW. Students consistently perform well in competitions, and the College has a strong reputation in this field.
There are two teams available, along with other opportunities:
SpeakSeason – Students selected for this division can participate in:
Rostrum (Junior and Senior, February–March)
Plain English Speaking (May)
Junior Secondary Schools Speaking (JSSS/Legacy, July)
UNYA Voice (September)
Rotary Public Speaking
Lions Youth of the Year (entries close November the year prior)
Separate tuition is provided at no charge to prepare for these external competitions. Students must be able to deliver compelling prepared and issue-based impromptu speeches and commit to sessions during school time. Spots are limited. Open to Years 7–12.
SpeakSquad (Development) – Students in this squad will have opportunities to compete in prepared speaking competitions at Eisteddfods (City of Sydney/Inner West) and UN Voice of Youth, with training and guidance provided at no charge. Open to Years 7–12.
Representative Team (AIDPSC & Speakfest) – Entry into the PLC Sydney representative team for Australian Public Speaking and Debating occurs in June, prior to the Term 2 holidays, and is open to students in Year 9 and above.
