Private Music Tuition

Private music tuition is available to all interested students at PLC Sydney from Kindergarten to Year 12. Students excel under a group of professional musicians who tutor students and nurture their learning. Students develop specific skills that enable them to perform individually and in ensembles. Tuition require a serious commitment and means students must commit and pay for one full semester (15 weeks of the year). This amount is non-refundable. There will be no refund given to a student who discontinues lessons at any stage during a semester.

Enrolments can start at anytime throughout the year pro rata - subject to availability. Payment is required in advance for the semester. 

The cost of private music lessons for Semester 2 2024:

15 weeks x 30 minute lessons - $810
15 weeks x 45 minute lessons - $1,215

Musicianship Courses:
15 weeks x 30 minute lessons - $810 

Instrument Hire charged - $100 per semester (for the viola, trombone, clarinet, flute, saxophone, trumpet and oboe only.)

Lesson Duration and Lesson Times

The duration of Private Music lessons are 30 minutes or 45 minutes. Weekly lessons are  offered on a rotational basis during school hours 8.20 am - 3.05 pm to minimise class disruption and spread across multiple subjects to allow equity between students. This includes recess and lunchtimes.

Fixed lesson times cannot be requested with the exception of students in Years 11 and 12 through consultation with their instrumental teacher. Students who learn two instruments at PLC can request an out of academic lesson time (before school, recess, lunch or after school) for one instrument, but cannot be guaranteed and subject to the Peripatetic Music teachers availability. 

Students in Kindergarten to Year 6 will not have lessons scheduled between 8.20 - 10.25am due to critical learning time. Peripatetic music lessons will only be scheduled from recess onwards.

Private Music Tuition Policy

Notice of Absence

In case of illness, 24 hour notice is to be given to the Instrumental Teacher. Teachers are not obligated to make up a missed lesson if 24 hours notice is not given.

If the lesson will be missed due to school activity such as exam, excursion etc, it is the students or parents responsibility to let the Instrumental teacher know. With enough notice, the teacher can find an alternate lesson time within the week of the missed lesson and notify Instrumental teacher with 1 weeks minimum notice. Please do not assume that the Instrumental teacher will know about your daughters school excursions or exams. 

All lessons missed due to Peripatetic teacher absence will be made up.

Discontinuation of lessons

In the event of the cancellation of lessons going into a new semester, 4 weeks notice must be given to the Peripatetic teacher.

Music Tutors With A Small Number Of Students

Peripatetic Music tutors who teach a small number of students will rotate as much as possible within the limited time they teach at PLC Sydney.
